Lending a Hand

Taye has a good heart and is often lending his voice and time to support various charities and organizations. Here are a few of the charities he has supported.

A BROADER WAY —-

The A BroaderWay Foundation was established in 2010 by Taye and his wife Idina as a means of supporting young people in the arts. A BroaderWay sponsors camp programs, theater workshops, innovative educational programming and offers scholarships and opportunities to experience professional performances.

This summer, Camp BroaderWay will welcome young girls from underserved metro New York communities to a 10-day performing arts camp, run by Idina Menzel and a team of acclaimed professional Broadway artists. Camp Broaderway’s focus is self-expression, empowerment, leadership development, and traditional camp fun. Camp BroaderWay will provide a positive nurturing environment for young girls to make new friends, explore new interests, and appreciate nature. The summer program will culminate with an original camper-created performance on a New York City stage.

This program is something very near to their hearts. Visit ABroaderWay.org to learn more about the foundation and Taye & Idina’s plans.

FEEDING AMERICA —-

Feeding America is the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity. Their mission is to feed America’s hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger.

Through the assistance of local and national food assistance programs, Feeding America is able to provide nutritious, fresh foods to Americans struggling with hunger; safe and nurturing places for children to have a meal; emergency assistance for disaster victims; as well as a chance at self-sufficiency for adults trying to break the cycle of poverty and hunger.

Taye donated his time and talent to putting together this PSA.

TIDE LOADS OF HOPE —-

Over 34,000 loads of laundry cleaned for families affected by disasters, and counting….
In times of disaster people turn to the most basic of human needs—and one of those is clean clothes. The Tide Loads of Hope program provides relief by means of a mobile laundromat. One truck and a fleet of vans house over 32 energy-efficient washers and dryers that are capable of cleaning over 300 loads of laundry every day. We wash, dry and fold the clothes for these families for free. Because, as we’ve learned, sometimes even the littlest things can make a big, big difference.

In December of 2007 Taye went to New Orleans, Louisiana to help bring Good ‘Tide-ings’ to the people who had been effected by Hurricane Katrina. Tide rebuilt ten homes for these families in one of New Orleans’ most
impacted areas, St. Bernard Parish. Taye was joined by New Orleans’ Vero Gospel Choir, Grammy award winning soul singer Irma Thomas, BET’s "Sunday Best" winner Crystal Aikin, and St. Bernard Parish families, neighbors and friends in caroling. In the spirit of the season, the community of St. Bernard Parish gathered at one of the newly rebuilt Tide homes to admire the splendor of the holiday lights, sip hot cocoa and sing holiday classics including: "Jingle Bells," "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and most appropriately "I’ll be Home for Christmas." The ten families also received brand new energy-efficient, front-loading Affinity(TM) washers and dryers donated by Frigidaire, a Winn-Dixie gift certificate and a one year supply of Tide detergent.

"Yesterday, I spent time visiting a number of families in New Orleans. They told me that this is the first time in two years that they will be able to enjoy the holidays in their own homes. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to help Tide support such a worthwhile cause," said Diggs. "I encourage everyone to join them in doing everything possible to continue to help this city."
