The Cast of Private Practice Says Farewell After Six Seasons

TV Guide.com’s Natalie Abrams spoke with each of the cast of Private Practice as they prepare to say farewell to their series tonight. Here are Taye’s answers … to read the entire interview go here.

After six seasons, 111 episodes, a backdoor pilot and a revolving door of men, Private Practice will go off the air Tuesday at 10/9c on ABC with Addison finally getting her happy ending: She’s getting married to someone she loves — and won’t cheat on. (Sorry, Derek!)

Addison Forbes Montgomery (Kate Walsh) is set to wed Jake Reilly (Benjamin Bratt), and actually will make it down the aisle. There will be no last-minute change-ups, snafus or curveballs as executive producer Shonda Rhimes has liked to throw at Private fans over the years. TVGuide.com was on set for the momentous occasion, where the cast waxed poetic on saying goodbye to the Oceanside Seaside Wellness group we’ve come to know and love over the years. What’s next for Walsh & Co.? Will they cross over to Grey’s Anatomy? And what has it been like saying goodbye? Get the scoop:

What is it like to say goodbye?
Taye Diggs (Sam Bennett): To be honest, I have mixed feelings. I feel like we’ve had a wonderful opportunity, and what we have has been special and different and unique. I feel very blessed to have worked with such an amazing cast. Then story-wise, I feel like we’ve, as sad as it will be for a lot of us to leave, I feel like the show has run its course. Personally, I feel like I have gotten a chance to tell some really great stories and it’s just time for the next chapter. So it feels right to me.

What were your fondest moments on set?
Diggs: It’s when we really get to know each other because we’re all a little older than some of the casts that I am used to working with. So everybody has their family and outside lives, so we wouldn’t necessarily get together as often outside of work, so during those scenes you’d really, over the past five years, we’ve really gotten to know each other.

How do you feel about the end for your character?
Diggs: I love that. I don’t know if there was a last-minute adjustment or if this was something that was in the writers’ heads from a while ago, but it just made sense to me to do.

‘Private Practice’ Cast Shares Their Dream Endings for the Series Finale

THR was on the set for the final days of the ABC drama and spoke with the cast about how they’d pen their characters’ ending, what show they’d want to move on to next as well as what set pieces they wanted as a keepsake.

ABC’s Private Practice will cap its six-season run Tuesday with a finale that will feature Addison Montgomery getting her dream ending when she (finally!) ties the knot and begins the fairy tale family she envisioned since the character’s days on Grey’s Anatomy.

After an abbreviated season of stand-alone episodes revolving around specific characters, The Hollywood Reporter hit the Hollywood set of the Shonda Rhimes drama during its final days to check in with the cast as the series prepared to tell one final story about the doctors of Seaside Wellness. Here’s a preview of how the cast envisions their character’s story line wrapping, the keepsakes from the set that they had their sights set on and a wish list of what current TV series they’d each like to turn to next.

Taye Diggs (Sam)
Dream ending: “I want to see him happy and for him to be with someone who he loves that loves him as well. He deserves to be with someone who is right for him,” Diggs says after a season that started with Addison picking Jake.
Keepsake: “The suits, the ties and tie clips! I’m going to try and buy a couple but I want them all! I’m going to try and steal them!” the always well-dressed Diggs says with his signature smile.
Next show: “I love New Girl. I’d play Winston’s zany brother!” says Diggs, noting he’s interested in exploring comedy next.

Amy Brenneman Teases Private Practice Finale, “Concluding the Novel”

Jan 22 • by Ali • No CommentsCo-Stars, Private Practice

TV.com shared this interview with Taye’s co-star Amy Brenneman. I especially love the part where she talks about tap dancing with Taye!

She couldn’t zero in on an exact number, but Amy Brenneman laughed at the question and admitted to me over the phone last week:

Yes, viewers will likely need a “few” boxes of Kleenex while watching tonight’s Private Practice finale.

The episode, of course, centers on Addison’s wedding to Jake and, unlike most of the installments that have comprised Private Practice Season 6, Brenneman describes this one was appropriately “communal.”

“This has been a novel with many, many chapters,” the actress said, explaining how there’s “no huge plot twist that blows everyone away tonight,” but that the episode is simply “respectful to the characters and the audience.”

And Brenneman’s Violet will play a key role in wrapping the series up, as Sarah Ramos guest stars tonight as a patient the audience has never seen before, someone who has been seeing Violet for five years.

“I believe she’s ready to go, but she disagrees. We’ve been meeting once per week for years and she has to learn that it’s gonna be okay. We’ve shared this time together and now it’s time to move on.”

Hmmm… wait! That sounds familiar.

“What [Creator Shonda Rhimes] has done so artfully,” Brenneman said, “is have Violet speak to the audience directly and acknowledge the partnership we’ve had. She plays an important part in concluding the novel.”

And which chapters of that novel stand out the most?

Brenneman cites the Private Practice Season 3 premiere and Amelia’s intervention as two of her favorite episodes. She says she’ll miss taking impromptu tap dance lessons from Taye Diggs and she’s proud to have played someone who has been able to “help other people.”

All the characters “really grew up,” Brenneman said. “We saw them these these seminal years, taking chances, getting married, becoming parents. I’m proud that Violet ended up on her own two feet, that’s she an example that there’s dignity in being a single person.”

The Private Practice series finale airs at 10/9c tonight on ABC. Bring Kleenex.

Taye Diggs Talks The End Of Private Practice – ‘We Had A Good Run’

Dec 12 • by Ali • No CommentsInterview, Private Practice, Video

Taye did an interview with Access Hollywood and talks about ending Private Practice and how he wants to do more comedy now that the series is over.

Taye Diggs discusses his sadness over it being the final season of “Private Practice,” but what will he not miss about the show? Plus, what does he want to do next in his career? Also, he talks about his involvement in the new wacky comedy, “Larry Gaye: The Renegade Male Flight Attendant” that Mark Feuerstein is championing to get made.

And another clip of him talking about Idina.

Taye Diggs gushes over his love for wife Idina Menzel and his son Walker. Even though Taye was attracted to Idina from the very beginning (they met while starring in “Rent”), how did she rub him the wrong way at first? Plus, which pop icon is his son Walker really into right now?

Audra McDonald Returning to ‘Private Practice’ for Series Finale

Unfortunately the season finale of Private Practice is fast approaching, but here is some good news. Taye’s co-star and friend Audra McDonald is returning for the finale.

*ABC medical drama “Private Practice” will end its six-season run in January with the grand return of a familiar face.
Audra McDonald will make an appearance on the series finale, slated to air at the end of January, reports TVGuide.com.
McDonald will reprise her role as Dr. Naomi Bennett, the best friend of Addison (Kate Walsh) and the former wife of Sam (Taye Diggs). Naomi left Seaside Wellness at the end of Season 4 and joined Fife (Michael Patrick Thornton) in New York.
McDonald left the show to be closer to her New York-based family. Details on Naomi’s return are being kept under wraps
